There are certain moments in life when we feel a bit disconnected from ourselves. We don’t feel connected anymore with the life we have been building until now, call it work, relationships, or even lifestyle. It’s like thousands of questions start bombarding your mind. What is the real purpose of my life? Am I doing the right things in life, so I can achieve the outcomes that I want? What is it that makes me feel passionate and alive?
In those moments, doubting about us is a must that we can portray very well.
Am I going towards the right direction? Should I have taken that decision? Or perhaps the other one?
Becoming aware of that mind chatter
Sometimes, our mind plays a big part here, with that citta vritti or internal chatter that is difficult to shut.
First things first, the thing is that you have not taken any bad decisions that led you to the wrong place, with the wrong people, or with the wrong job. Everything is how it is supposed to be. It is all part of the process, of YOUR process.
The first step is to find your purpose in life by reflecting on your passions and thoughts.
In this article, I will share some tips that will help you out when listening to your inner voice and discovering why you are here.
Truthfully, not even one purpose in life is easy to achieve or pursue. This, as with almost everything in life requires high doses of discipline, perseverance, and commitment. And not, I’m not saying that you must overwork yourself until exhaustion. The thing is to find something you feel passionate about and own it.
5 introspective questions that will help you to find your purpose in life
if you feel identified with all the above, don’t worry. You are not alone. And you are not passing through that famous “middle-age crisis”. You only need a little bit of perspective to keep it up. This is why you need to do lots of introspection and meditation. You should be asking yourself these questions:
1. What makes me feel joyful and alive?
2. What is what I really enjoy doing, to the extent that I lose track of time?
3. What is what I would be doing if I wasn’t paid for it?
4. What would I do tomorrow if my life I’d die tomorrow?
5. What would I do if I wouldn’t need money.
Write all these down and dedicate some extra time to think about it. Nowadays, we live such busy lives that we often forget to reflect upon the things that really matter to us.
10 best tips to find your purpose in life
Here are some tips that will help you identify the clues to find your purpose in life.
1. Think about how you can contribute to society
There’s no such purpose in life which is only related to you. We are all connected and act accordingly so your purpose in life should be linked to that. Being connected to others and feeling part of something is what makes it work. Look for something that fills that empty space, like voluntary work or something that impulses you to help others.
2. Explore your interests
What is that that you are always talking about, or publishing in your social media channels? Climate change concerns? History? Sports? All that we think about and that matters to us is what will make our purpose find its way. Try to be as conscious and aware as you can. Look to expand your hobbies by joining related activities. If you don’t have any hobbies yet, go outside and try to find one!
3. Discover how you want to help
You might have already discovered what you are willing to sacrifice and what is what you really want to do in life. The next step is to find out how you are going to achieve it.
Perhaps you are good at numbers or statistics? Or maybe you are more creative with content creation? Ideally, you should use your knowledge and skills to help you solve challenges coming into your life. For example, I still remember that time when I was working as an intern for the local radio. That’s when I discovered that what I like the most is creating content, not broadcasting it. All this process is what made me more aware of my inner passions.
4. Forget about your self-limiting beliefs
The stories that we tell ourselves stop our progress in life. Thoughts like 'we don’t deserve this or that' or the usual 'that is too much for me', hold you back unconsciously. And that makes us take several decisions that lead us in the opposite direction towards personal growth. If you change the way you think gradually, your results will also change.
5. Focus on what you already have
Having an abundance mindset will make you attract even more abundance to your life, creating those situations, connections and relationships that will help you sync with your life purpose.
6. Be grateful
Appreciating what you have achieved in life is vital when attracting your future goals. A big part of finding your purpose in life is to build over what you have already built. Don’t forget to thank God, the karma, the Universe or whatever it is that you are sending your prayers/blessings to.
7. Have a clear picture of what you want.
Be clear about what you want to achieve and what no longer serves you. It is also important to set your priorities and beliefs, so your mind focuses on the right side of things.
8. Be flexible about it.
It is good if you develop an obsession with discovering (or re-discovering) your purpose in life, but don’t be too stubborn about how every step must unfold towards the outcome. Bear in mind that sometimes things in life don’t happen as you expect, but as you need them to happen. Be patient and trust the process.
9. Transform your pain into your purpose.
We all face lots of challenges over the course of our life, which is what makes us unique in many ways. Many of those people who struggle often seek the support of a professional coach or psychologist. This career path is also one that many people follow as their life purpose. Guiding those who want to overcome their own challenges is the best way to give back to the Universe.
10. Trust the process
Last but not least, don’t forget to enjoy the process while you work towards your goals. We can’t control how the Universe works out things, but we can control how we take things by understanding our emotions, as they play a vital role in your soul’s purpose search.
